LIONS VALLEY PARK CLEAN UP MARCH 2016 – Thank you to Sean, Chad and Kevin for helping clean up Lions Valley Park today! It was a beautiful sunny day and it definitely felt like Spring with temperatures eventually reaching 16 degrees. The ground throughout the park was mostly dry with a few damp patches and the water level of sixteen mile creek was high as the winter thaw flowed to Lake Ontario. The Cupcake Mile organized by Black Forest Pastry Shop owner John Ziemba was a huge success despite the less than desirable clouds and rain. Held in downtown Oakville the 400m loop encompassed the block around Black Forest Pastry Shop. The reason for this event was to support and raise money for The Lighthouse Project for Grieving Children. Another Win for Lions Valley Athletics David Gallant…Sunday October 18 the Rotary Burlington Turkey Trot 5KM Trail Race took place just around the corner in Bronte Creek Provincial Park Oakville, ON. GUESS WHO?Halloween is approaching and that means it’s time for the Trek or Treat race through the trails of Lions Valley Park & the Sixteen Mile Creek Trails. This year Grace Beer participated in the 5k race with some of her hockey team mates. In the dark, Grace had an excellent race where she placed 25th Overall, 4th Woman and 1st in her Age-Group in a time of 24:33.
David Gallant was our sole runner in the 5k race with an early 7am start that had perfect conditions for racing. Once the gun went off, he stayed with a small group at the front which eventually became only two.
