Park Ambassadors – Lions Valley Park Clean Up MARCH 2016

LIONS VALLEY PARK CLEAN UP MARCH 2016

Thank you to Sean, Chad and Kevin for helping clean up Lions Valley Park today! It was a beautiful sunny day and it definitely felt like Spring with temperatures eventually reaching 16 degrees. The ground throughout the park was mostly dry with a few damp patches and the water level of sixteen mile creek was high as the winter thaw flowed to Lake Ontario. We spent about 30 minutes walking the park and filled close to 2 garbage bags which is great. The picnic table areas have each had a roof constructed over top which means we will have some shelter from the sun, or rain during workouts. (if they are not being used by others)

Lions Valley Athletics is Park Ambassadors for 2 areas. The first is Lions Valley Park north of the pedestrian bridge from the parking lot. The second is a section of trail with a loop at the end that starts near Lions Valley Park Road on the upper valleys east side.

It was a successful day at Lions Valley Park but, unfortunately we were unable to get to the section of trail on the east side of the upper valley.  If there are any members who can volunteer about 15-20 minutes of time over the next week to walk the trail and pick up any litter it would be very much appreciated.  Gloves and garbage bags will be provided.  Email info@lionsvalleyathletics.com if interested.

ABOUT  THE PARK AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Lions Valley Athletics joined Oakville's Park Ambassador Program to help maintain the trails and parks we use regularly and enjoy.  As Park Ambassadors we are responsible for periodically cleaning up litter, and reporting vandalism or damage and in return a sign is posted for each trail and park we are responsible for.  The Town of Oakville provides Park Ambassadors with gloves and garbage bags to use while keeping our trails and parks beautiful.
